Thursday, April 22, 2021 was a day of so much confusion. I guess that’s what happens when someone you love is just gone unexpectedly. From the moment you get a call or receive a message to the final moments of holding your dads hands while he draws his last breath, just true confusion. Even as I write these words and the tears slowly roll down my face, I can’t seem to make sense of it all. The best way I can describe it is I’m having a nightmare and I can’t wake up. As the confusion settles and reality sets in, the one thing that is certain is that you are gone, Dad. I wish I could bring you back and feel the warmth of your hug and watch you play with your grandchildren one last time, but it was your time to go. God was calling you home to be with all the loved ones we have lost in our family. There are many things I can tell you about my Dad, from his weird and awkward dancing to his love of Seinfeld and crime shows. All of these things are great, funny, and special, but what can I tell you that you will remember and say “I heard of a man like that before, what was his legacy?” The story goes like this…Did you ever hear of a man that saved four hearts? No? let me tell you about this man. There was this woman, many years ago, who had a broken heart, and this woman had three children whose hearts were just as broken. Now, this woman did everything for her children and would even sacrifice her own happiness or love in an attempt to repair or save their hearts, but she didn’t have to. This woman ran into a man, a man by the name of Albert Katno, and although the woman was scared and protective, she decided to take a chance on this man and let him in to their hearts because she new these boys would need a man, a true man to guide them and show them what it was to be a good man in this world and more importantly, what it was to love. This man, Albert Katno, my Dad, came into a broken family and saved our hearts. I use to think that it was the hurt that made me the father I am today, but in fact it wasn’t, it was you Albert, and your story, your legacy. How you came into a broken family and showed them so much love that you saved them, you saved our hearts. So please, when you hear of my Dad think of his story, no, his legacy. Think of the man who saved 4 hearts.

I had the priviledge of working with Al at FedEx. I was his manager before I retired and hired him into the Dispatch Department. I couldn't ask for a better employee and coworker. Al was always positive even when the challenges were high. He was a skilled, reliable and resourceful person. He was simply the best! I am so sad to learn of his untimely passing. May God bless his soul and comfort his wife Janet and his sons during this most difficlut time.
